Real-Life Stories : Christopher Newman Christopher lives in Brisbane, Australia and is someone I've got to know recently. He's been through the pain of low self esteem. His experience may help you...
"From a younger age, I suffered from low self esteem and a lack of self confidence. Being a teenager in today's world is never helpful for one's esteem either, with kids constantly pulling each other down with horrible comments such as, 'your fat' or 'nobody likes you loser'. Luckily, I didn't get called any of these things, yet I was always afraid to step out and shine. At school, if you're not an immature teenager who makes dirty jokes, you're not a normal teenager. I never understood why dirty jokes were funny nor did I see them as a good thing to do. They're hurtful, mean and downright disrespectful towards people. My friends all used horrible language when they started hanging around the wrong crowd, made dirty jokes and pulled me down because I didn't have a girlfriend or want to date girls at 15 years of age.
My dreams and aspirations had put me in a place where I saw myself wanting to move to America and study in the next couple years, so having a girlfriend would be stupid because I would leave them quickly after meeting them, as a result, I never really cared about how I was seen by girls and it didn't bother me. For the most part, I would be happy talking with my friends and just relaxing yet there was and still is the constant pressure to be 'cool' and accepted as a popular kid. The constant verbal abuse I received for my views eventually broke through my 'self shield' and made me feel bad about myself, depressed and unaccepted, classical symptoms of low self esteem. I also had a huge problem with blushing, which made me feel horrible inside. Luckily for me, my faith played a huge step in keeping me from going under. The unconditional love I received from my religion and the support from my church kept me floating when all my friends were sinking. Anyway, another huge influence on my self esteem was www.more-selfesteem.com. This site was the 'Bible' of self esteem tips, tricks and support. The information there helped me turn my life around and now I can do many things I couldn't do before. I still blush, but guess what... I don't care anymore! I learned that if we just ignore the blushing and learn to cope with it, it goes away and we actually grow in confidence. Running away wasn't working for me, so I turned around, put my armor on and ran head first into my problems and fought against them; where I emerged victorious! Even though, self steem is still a factor I consider each and every day, learning how to overcome the issue and be comfortable with who I am has made my life worth living." ------------------------------ Christopher asked me to share his story with you and wants to help others beat self esteem and conquer the fear of public speaking in a new upcoming audio/video series which I will also be working on. (More news about this soon) Look at what Chris says about my new e-book "Self Esteem Secrets": "Thanks so much Karl, this book was just what I was looking for! It was inspiring and full of facts that helped me immensely! I personally encourage you to read this, worth every cent!" Read more about "Self Esteem Secrets" (my new e-book) | |||
